How do I sign up?

How do I cancel a shift on VolunteerUp?

If for any reason you want to cancel a shift that you have previously signed up for, please log in and go to MY INFO (tab located near the left top of the page).  Under this tab, you will see MY COMMITMENTS.  From there you can delete your shift. If you have a last minute cancellation, please email or call Jacob Mize at or (714) 836-7188 ext.146.

What are my duties as a volunteer?

Set up mats, light cleaning, assist with distributing snacks and donations, rolling silverware and serving dinner, passing out hygiene items, final clean-up and be an all-around team player to complete necessary shelter tasks!

What is the age minimum to volunteer at the shelter?

Santa Ana: Volunteers must be 13 years & older and must have a parent/guarding with them if they are under 18. IMPORTANT: the parent/guardian would also have to be a registered volunteer for the shift. If you are part of a group and are a minor your parent/guardian must sign your volunteer application (waiver & agreement). If you are part of a group that does not include your parent/guardian ex: church youth group, please have your parent/guardian sign a note stating that your group leader is responsible for you during volunteering at the Armory. For groups including minors, we do require 1 adult per 3 minors.

Where is the shelter located?

The Santa Ana Armory is located at 612 E. Warner St. Santa Ana, CA 92707 (near Warner Ave. & Main St.)

The Fullerton Armory is located at 400 S. Brookhurst, Fullerton, CA 92833 (near Brookhurst and Valencia Ave).

What types of donations are needed at the shelter?

In-kind donations are accepted 7 days per week. Donations can only be accepted during the hours of 6pm-8pm at both Armories. We cannot accept donations outside of this timeframe at this location as the building belongs to the CA National Guard and Mercy House staff is not present.

Please keep in mind that we can only accept adult clothing that is appropriate for the cold weather. Please, no summer clothing, canned goods, or household items.  If you are interested in donating hot chocolate, granola bars (Nature Valley) we would be more than happy to accept these in-kind items! **Please note, items cannot be expired**

How can I help to sponsor food at the emergency shelters (dinners and/or sack lunches)?

For more information, please email Community Resource  Coordinator at or (714) 836-7188 ext.146.

*All food and sack lunches must be scheduled.
